I never got around to snapping pictures of the just-planted garden beds, but I did take some last night! This is what the garden is looking like two weeks after planting.
The strawberry patch has pretty much doubled in size since I planted it last fall (with runners from my Mom’s plants) and we’re getting berries!
The cucumbers and carrots are sprouting in this box. We got a bad rain storm right after I planted everything (2” in one day!) so there are a few spots where the carrot seeds washed into groups. I’m going to have to thin them out and probably re-seed in a few areas.
The top row here is string beans. I have to add in a pole and string for them to climb soon. Below that is spinach and lettuce, mostly just starting to poke through. Bottom right is a zucchini plant. I seeded a few and this is the only one that came up! I’m going to have to baby it.
This bed is pretty much everything I planted from seedlings – tomatoes, sweet peppers, hot peppers, eggplants and tomatillos. So far we’ve been able to keep the deer and bunnies away.
Herbs are in pots on the deck this year. Mark’s Mom put together this one, and it’s doing really well.
This one on the other hand, not so much. This was mostly re-plants of things that lasted the winter in the garden. I’m going to rip out and redo soon.
And, my blueberry bush!
Which looks a little sad until you get up close and see it’s covered in tiny blueberries! I’m pretty excited for these.
I think the hardest part of gardening is the delayed gratification bit – which is why I’m loving the strawberries right now. I picked out the first bunch last night and there’s more to come! Don’t they look awesome?
I’m hoping to post updated pictures weekly… we’ll see if that works out.
